1/18/2007 New Orleans Saints

Nice Sign! I think that says it all.
With my history of being a Tom Benson critic; I think
it's time to give credit where credit is due. Tom, thanks for keeping
the Saints here in New Orleans, and thanks for hiring Sean Payton.
I can't begin to say what this team has done for the
spirit of the people here in New Orleans. Through "hell and high water"
our city was on the difficult road to recovery, and making progress
albeit sometimes at a big easy pace.
Many of our people have not returned, and for many
different reasons. While I thought that I loved the city more because I
stayed; I now realize that many didn't return for that exact same
reason: that they loved the city.
Regardless of where we all are now, the success of the
Saints this year has been a uniting force that's put smiles back on the
faces of many people still grieving the many losses they've faced since
August of 2005.
This team's comeback from the difficult season last year
has been little short of an NFL coup d'etat. Sean Payton and his gang
have defied the odds and shown all the critics what they are here to do.
Saints fans all over the country finally have a chance
to live the dream we never thought possible.
Thank you, New Orleans Saints, for the incredible gift
you've given our city and your fans all across America.

Saints Fans don't fear. If you remember a few years back, the Saints
Beat every team they faced that had a Winning record, but they also Lost
to every team with a Losing record. The Saints are IN the playoffs and
will only be facing teams with winning record. So let's not beat around
the BUSH but start tooting our own HORN. We can just BREES our way to
the playoffs by just winning DEUCE more games. Go Saints!

Saints 42, Cowboys 17

Do the New Orleans Saints still have to prove themselves? I hope so.
I hope we stay the underdogs until the day we win the (I don't want to
say the "S" word). That's how we do best. That's why I've been a Saints
fan since I was old enough to walk. I can identify with the "underdog."
So I hope every team in the NFL thinks we "suck" while we're putting
points on the board. Congratulations guys, that was a great performance
you put on last Sunday night.

"I knew if I just waited long enough the same ole saints would come out.
We're doomed again for another year."
I'm not so glum. I was at the Saints game Sunday. I stayed when
everyone else left just because I wanted to see what they could do. This
is a team that's great to watch, even when they're down. It's definitely
not the Saints of last year. That was a team that was inconsistent in
all levels of play. Right now our biggest problem is turnovers, and
although it's something that will cause us to lose football games, it's
a problem we can solve. The poor leadership of the past was not the same
problem at all.
This is an explosive offense, and a defense that's playing with a lot
of heart. You gotta keep the faith!

Man, I feel like the worst fan ever. The
Saints are having one of the best seasons of all time, and I'm missing
game and not having time to post. Here's my excuses: my wife really
did spill water on my laptop, well, I got it back (repaired) last
week ... then I came down with this nasty virus that's had me throwing
up all weekend. I was so sick on Sunday that I could barely hold my eyes
open, although when open, they were on THE GAME...
Saints 27, Eagles 24
I guess this showed all the naysayers that the Saints really are "for
real." It was awesome to see Joe Horn get back in the swing. I was real
worried about Deuce going out for a while...what's the status on his
hamstring anyway? Coach Payton is quickly becoming one of most popular
guys in New Orleans. Deservedly so.

Saints 20, Falcons 3
Incredible. The dome was rockin last night! I've never been a part of
a crowd so electrified. I think I lost my voice after the first 5
minutes. From the blocked punt to the last field goal of the game the
Saints played with more enthusiasm than I've seen in years. In
particular, the defense played a near perfect game with help from almost
every player. The Falcons had only one successful long passing play when
one of their receivers got past McKenzie. Fred Thomas was
AWESOME. The combination of their effort and the Falcon's bumbling
receivers left the Falcon's offense inept.
The only areas I'd like to see our guys improve on were special teams
play against the returns and blocking for our returns. The kick returns
were a little lopsided in the Falcon's favor. Although we didn't need
long passes in this game, Carolina could be a different story. Our red
zone play could have been better, since we left excellent field position
quite a few times with only a field goal. But I certainly don't
want to rain on this parade. These guys deserve all the praise
they get this week from a grateful bunch of fans.
The Saints win gave this area a good injection of renewed faith and
hope. Bless you boys! Keep the Faith! Who Dat? Cha-Ching!

I can't begin to say what the Saints
return to New Orleans means to the people of the City of New Orleans,
and myself included. Win or lose, it's gonna be a great event this
Monday night. Here's a comment I got yesterday:

Now I'm excited. The Saints are 2-0. I told you guys not to worry
about preseason! Bench McKenzie coach! He's weak! He got burned numerous
times today. It's
hard for me to post right now since my wife spilled a glass of water on
my laptop last week. We're in the data recovery process...this will
interfere with my ability to post pics too.

I guess it's the guy from last week. No offense taken! I'm sitting on
my *** with nothing to talk about. I really haven't been that concerned
about preseason. You gave me something to talk about.
Now I'm getting concerned about preseason. After last Saturday, this
is looking a lot like last year. I was listening to the whole 870 team
crawfish on their initial predictions for the team. I guess we'll see.

knucklehead sounding jock / football announcer last night:
"Game tonight. Let's get this blog in gear!!!!!!!"
First of all, this is New Orleans. Nothing ever has been or ever will
be "In Gear."
This is preseason, the only thing I'm remotely concerned about, is if
any of our guys get hurt.

I don't waste my time commenting on game play anymore. This team
can't get a handle on fundamentals, so to sit here and say, "they should
have done this, or that." Is a waste of time. 6 Turnovers. Enough said.

I just can't get excited about my team anymore. I love the Saints,
but we're just in a place right now where the team owner has made it
impossible for this team to be successful.
I'm glad Madden pointed out the fact last night that our team is working
out in a tent in San Antonio when we have a perfectly good practice
facility here in New Orleans. I'm glad they recognized some of the
challenges the team faces.
It's really unfortunate however, that they showed video of untouched
parts of the French Quarter during their broadcast - when most of our
city is uninhabitable the destruction is so bad. They need to show
people the water line on every house and the piles of storm debris on
every street. They should have mentioned the fact that the REAL reason
that no one wants to come back to New Orleans is the fact that we can't
get our government to commit to a category 5 levee system.
Back to Football...
Our special teams play is the worst I've ever seen it. You'd think those
problems would be addressed since we've been struggling in that area all
season.
Our offensive line played terrible. Again. Brooks got sacked 3 times,
once for a safety. No interceptions this game though. We do need to work
on Holding Onto the Ball Until the Whistle is Blown. This has
been another consistent problem.
If nothing changes ... nothing will change.

11/28/2005 New Orleans Saints
A much needed victory last night for our
displaced team. I'm glad that the ESPN announcers brought attention to
the unusual dilemmas our team now faces since the storm.
The game was mediocre. At one point in time I had that sinking feeling
every Saints fan is familiar with. It's that "here we go again...how bad
can we screw this game up?" feeling. It has a lot to do with penalties,
I think.
Aaron Brooks was on target with his 3 touchdown passes - good job. NO
TURNOVERS! This game was so close, I'm pretty sure a turnover would have
cost us the game. In fact, if the jets last drive had put the field goal
10 yards closer, they would have won it.

"Obviously, we're not getting it done. That's the bottom line. Every
week it's the same old saga."
- Joe Horn
That says it all.
It got entertaining towards the end, but it was too late get juiced.
I can't believe Carney missed that field goal. It wouldn't have made a
difference now; but if we had scored that td in the end we could have
won the game.

11/12/2005 New Orleans Saints
I saw Terry Bradshaw on FOX last weekend
talking about buying the New Orleans Saints.
There's nothing better that could happen to the team.
We'd have an owner that loves the State of Louisiana and New Orleans,
and the icing on the cake would be the fact that Terry Bradshaw knows
football.
Tom Benson has continuously turned out a poor product during his entire
tenure of Saints ownership. He's alienated the city of New Orleans and
State of Louisiana. Is it time to move on now?

It was the same old show again in Death Valley. Another game of
turnovers - although the Saints stayed within reach of the win due to
the fact that the Bears had their share of turnovers as well.
Where was the team's owner?
San Antonio.
32,637 in attendance. Wow. That's got to be one of the smallest crowds
in years.
The game was not a total loss though. The defense played well for the
most part. Although McKenzie's interference calls were crippling.
Aaron Brooks passed for 170 yards. (But threw two interceptions)
It's probably good that the Saints have next week off.

Rock Bottom
Tom Benson lunges at the WWLTV camera after the game, following his
team's 4th straight loss in a row.
Fans and season ticket holders had to wait hours in line to see the
game. Many speculate that Benson wanted to show a "lack of local
support" in order to make his case for moving the team.

Well - here it is.
Don't even know if I should post this. It's such a load of #@&%. Tom
Benson says, "TOM BENSON WANTS TO RETURN TO NEW ORLEANS."
What Tom WANTS is to milk the state of Louisiana for as much
money as he possibly can, and he reminds us of that here:
"It must be made very clear that the future of our team in New
Orleans will be determined by factors that are yet unresolved, such
as, economics and facilities, the very issues that we have struggled
with prior to Hurricane Katrina."
He took a stab at the mayor, said he donates millions to local
charities (which I think we need to check the facts on - because nobody
donates millions without handing over a big cardboard check in front of
TV cameras), and then goes on to criticize the media because they, "have
never run a company and have no clear understanding of how to run a
successful business."
Enough said. I think we can all read between the lines. Thanks Tom.
Thanks for the help.

Saints 17, Rams 28
Why am I cursed to love a team that shoots themselves in the foot,
time and time again. What was with that fake field goal? I mean, if
your'e gonna have a skinny back up quarterback run the ball - don't send him
through the middle where all the blockers are!
I really didn't see us winning the game after the Saints showed their
typical really-bad-timing penalties and dropped balls. They were on the
downhill slide FAST when the Rams' Furry STRIPPED the ball from Ernie
Conwell AFTER he was tackled - running in for a touchdown. The refs let
him go. That put the last nail in the coffin. The Saints couldn't
challenge because they didn't have any time outs left.
Saints special teams were horrible. Again.
The NFL needs to start fining REFS for making blatantly bad calls,
that might put a stop to it.
When Aaron Brooks went out for the last possession, I just felt bad
for him - if I was in his shoes, I don't think I'd wanna get back on the
field. Maybe next week.

I didn't comment on last weeks game because there was just nothing to
say. This week was pretty exciting, although the same mistakes they've
made in the past crippled them. Turnovers being the most troublesome. 3
turnovers turned into 21 points for the Falcons that they didn't even
have to work for. Saints special teams played horrible. A field goal got
blocked and turned over for a touchdown. A blocker ran into Hakim, and I
don't think that they returned the ball past the 20 yard line. Did they?
Brooks
played awesome - he had an interception resulting from a poorly thrown
ball, but it really wasn't that far off. It only got intercepted because
the receiver knocked it up in the air.
259 yds Passing / Stecker and Smith combined for almost 180 yds
rushing. Awesome game. Bad call in the end by the officials kept the
game from going into overtime. I think the official wanted to get home
on time or something.
The Saints tied the club record for first downs with 32.

New Orleans Saints
With all this evacuation nonsense...I haven't been
as astute as I'd like to the New Orleans Saints. Last week, I listened
to the game from Houston on WWL. It was AWESOME. I'm so proud of those
guys for pulling such a great effort out in the season opener with
everything as crazy as it has been back home.
My eyes welled up for a second thinking about what being a Saints fan
means for me. The New Orleans Saints are the underdogs in NFL world. We
don't expect our team to come out and win the Superbowl, not even make
the playoffs. It's not that they don't have the talent. It's more like
some kind of voodoo curse the team has. That's what makes it so awesome
when we do win...it's like we're defying gravity or something. That
Sunday it was like telling the world, "we might be down, but we're on
our way back up."
Then came week 2. Wow, is this 2004 all over again? Mistake, after
mistake, after mistake. It's like a row of dominoes - when one falls,
they all fall. This is going to be the challenge for this great football
team all season long - consistent play. It's ok to make mistakes. It's
going to happen. But it's almost like it's "all or nothing" with the
Saints. They either play like Superbowl contenders or a bunch of rookies
with their heads up their rear. The attitude needs to change from "Oh
crap, Joe Horn dropped a pass," to, "Man, Joe dropped that pass - so I
got his back, I'm gonna catch mine."
Come on fellas...

I'm really upset about the current
situation with the Saints' negotiations with the state. The Saints
franchise brings a TON of money to the state of Louisiana, and Kathleen
Blanco is making Tom Benson out to be a greedy millionaire who wants to
suck the state dry. Is Tom Benson a greedy millionaire?
Probably So.
Does that matter? No.
The New Orleans Saints Franchise is a business, and as far as Mrs.
Blanco is concerned, it shouldn't matter who owns them. This is a
financial deal for the state - that is good for the state.
As David Tyree said, if this was Bill Gates talking about bringing a
business to Louisiana, would Mrs. Blanco ask him to open up his books?
Would she make references to the number of yachts he owns?

What's different about this team from the one that started the
season? Enthusiasm. McKenzie. Fewer mistakes. Who's dogging it coach?
What spurred this team to turn around like they did? How did Benson's
comments affect the team? They seem to do better as the underdog, when
no one expects anything of them.
Who knows what next season will bring for the New Orleans Saints.
Only one thing is certain. If nothing changes; nothing will change.
These last four games were great, and sadly, they gave us another taste
of what this team is capable of. Falling just short of the playoffs was
a symbolic ending to another season.

I had to listen to this one from Dallas using my laptop and NFL Field

I think McKenzie has been a great asset to the team, with interceptions
in 3 consecutive games (the first time since we had Sammy Knight in
1998), he brings a much needed spark to our deflated defense. Glad to
hear Stallworth make some good catches too; it seemed like all season he

Sadly much of the same inconsistency we've been seeing all year. The
most painful part was in the end when the saints had about 1:30 to get
down field and score. The play calling was
horrible. Brooks threw a few short passes. They never made it out
the starting gate.
Tenth game in a row the Saints went scoreless in the first quarter.
What should we attribute this to? Haslett's had four years with this
team and they're worse off now than when Ditka turned them over to him.
I mean, I hate to say that; because Haslett's such a nice guy. Maybe
that's why we've kept him around so long?

"That's the worst performance I've seen of our club in the

Maybe reality's finally starting to set in for Tom Benson.
Buddy
D. says he thinks Benson "might have missed a few games." I agree.
But what's it gonna take Tom? Is this
rock bottom?
Is Tom Benson going to realize that now, maybe now - it's time to
make some changes - to realize that we need to take a drastically
different perspective on how a football team needs to be managed?
In my amateur opinion ... everyone in the City of New Orleans knows
the Saints started going downhill quick, after Benson fired General
Manager
Randy Mueller in 2002. You can't listen to talk radio for 10 minutes
without hearing Mueller's name brought up. That was 2 years ago.
Why was Mueller fired? Because he criticized Benson's "management
style." If I was Benson, I'd call that guy quick and ask him what
I'm doing wrong, and suck up my pride.

Traffic uptown sucks right now. If they build a new stadium
at the foot of the GNO bridge it will be a

The Saints can't support it!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
11/14/2004 New Orleans SaintsThe Saints actually won today, and I'm not surprised. They
have awesome talent, but for some reason
Tom Benson can't
seem to figure out why they are COMPLETELY unmotivated.
They lose to the worst teams in the NFL and beat some of the best. It
kind of makes you wonder.
